PopCultHQ’s Comic Book Review:
Hero Cats of Skyworld Vol. 6: New Realms

Writing:

Kyle Puttkammer’s script is such a wonderful piece of writing. It is downright cute, because it’s cats having adventures, saving their world with magic and heroics. There is not a single thing about this volume that doesn’t scream a fun read for everyone. It’s an engaging and interesting story (like the rest of the Hero Cats trades), and it is something that has been long awaited no doubt by fans of the comics.

Art:

Omaka Schultz’s art really adds a certain depth to this story. The colors that denote who each cat is, the world they are fighting for, the bright flashes and chaos of battles, etc. Omaka takes the script for this volume, and really kicks the whole project up a notch with his artwork. In short, it’s beautiful and awesome.

Julie Barclay’s colors are exquisite. They bring out Omaka’s art and, like the art adding depth to the story, add their own depth to the overall plot. There is a great usage of shadows, very heavy blacks for certain pages and scenes. And when the action takes place outside, oh, it is just a color explosion! From the blue of the sky to the fur of each cat, to the ground they walk upon, it’s stunning.

George Gant’s lettering plays its own role in this latest Hero Cats trade. Each page and panel is chock full of word balloons and sound effects, but none of this encroaches on the other or overcrowds the art. Gant’s lettering ensures that nothing upsets the balance of the trade. George is a master letterer and his work is the final piece that binds together this latest Hero Cats trade.

PopCultHQ’s overall assessment:

Hero Cats Vol. 6 is the latest chapter fans have been waiting for. If anyone had missed out the issues that comprise this trade, now is the time to pick up up where you left off. It not only greatly advances the plot, but there’s a lot of surprises within the book as well. Hero Cats is a great series with a fantastic creative team, and everyone makes their mark, and those marks can be seen through collected editions like Vol. 6.
