FROM THE CREATOR OF ATOMIC BLONDE – BABOUSHKA’S BACK FOR A BRAND-NEW MISSION! “Ghost Stations” are abandoned Soviet bases from the Cold War, long forgotten and useless…or so people think! When an EON agent goes missing on the trail of a ghost station in the Swiss mountains, Mr. Clay turns to crime-boss-turned-blackmailed-international-superspy BABOUSHKA to investigate—and what she finds is EXPLOSIVE!
PopCultHQ’s Comic Book Review:
Ghost Station Zero #1
Writing:
Antony Johnston has an excellent writing style. It is not flowery, rather quick, full of wit from the Baboushka. There is authority in her speech, as well as the kind of classic fast-talking dialogue one would expect from a spy comic book. Johnston is well-known already for his other achievements both in comics and other writing fields, and this first issue indicates that the second series of adventures with Baboushka will be first-rate.
Art:
Shari Chankhamma’s art is explosive! Literally, in some cases! Her art is bright, yet also has the darkness one would expect from a comic series about a spy. Since this is her second go round with Johnston, readers can tell they are in their element and compliment one another stylistically.
Simon Bowland teams up once again with Johnston and Chankhamma for round two of Baboushka and her adventure-filled, danger and thrills life as a spy. The lettering doesn’t crowd together when there’s multiple characters in a panel, something that can occur quite often in comics and alienate readers. Avoiding this error means that people who pick up Ghost Station Zero #1 and the subsequent issues won’t be put off, but instead will be drawn in.
PopCultHQ’s overall assessment:
Guns, explosions, visiting exotic locales, and a race to uncover military secrets long thought buried. That’s what readers are getting with the start of Ghost Station Zero, and it’s a heavy serving of action, alongside eye-popping art to boot! This is sure to be a great sequel to Johnston and Chankhamma’s first Baboushka series, and is a great homage to the spy genre!
PopCultHQ’s Rating:
5 Out of 5 Stars
