Salvation through sacrifice!

Today: Ray Garrison and his true love, Magic, thought they had left their days of tumult and violence behind them as they raise their newborn daughter, Jessie, in the quiet isolation of the countryside… Until Magic’s father – the depraved cultist simply named “Daddy” – seeks to bring his wayward progeny back into his flock by any means necessary. Now, torn between the family that loves him and the rage within, the walking weapon of war once called Bloodshot is about to give in to revenge…

Meanwhile: In the near future, can Magic and the now-adolescent Jessie outmaneuver the nanite-infused killer called Rampage long enough to answer the question that has haunted them for years… Whatever happened to the man they both loved? Whatever happened to Bloodshot?

PopCultHQ’s Comic Book Review:
Bloodshot Salvation #2

Writing:

Jeff’s writing takes on a new shape this issue. Writing in both present and past parts, he puts before readers the next step in this latest story. For Bloodshot and Magic, there is the threat of Magic’s depraved family. For Magic and Jessie, there is the threat of Rampage and discovering what happened to Bloodshot. Questions are waiting to be answered within, and in the issues that will follow, all thanks to Jeff.

Art:

Lewis and Mico’s art is out of sight for issue #2. Whether the pages are filled with action or scene-building layouts, these two get what it means to be artists working on a book of this magnitude, with a character as powerful as Bloodshot. There’s a rich tapestry being woven in the pages, and the pictures come from Lewis and Mico.

Brian and Diego kill it with colors again. They use lots of bright, vivid color for bringing the action pages and outdoor scenes to life. For characters like Bloodshot and Jessie, the tone of their skin, the hue of their eyes, and the blood circle on their bodies, these are carefully and excellently colored. This is one team of colorists that does top work together.

Simon works his magic again as letterer. Each character, from Bloodshot to Magic, to Jessie, Rampage and Magic’s messed up family, every person has a voice. If there’s an accent, it is heard loud and clear. If there’s a way they enunciate their vowels, it’s there. All the little things that make people, well, people, are heard loud and proud thanks to Simon and his magnificent lettering work.

PopCultHQ’s overall assessment:

For every opening salvo within a great comic book story, there is always the second wave. This issue #2 is that second wave. Bloodshot’s world is being turned upside down, and his family’s future is the high stakes prize. What lengths will he go to in protecting the ones he loves? Pick up issue #2 today and find out.

PopCultHQ’s Rating:

5 Out of 5 Stars
