PopCultHQ Review – Bigfoot – Sword of the Earthman #4

Enter Turonia! Bro, this place is going to trip you out! The Earthman and the scribe caste Cantor have entered a new land on Mars, one noted for its dark, shady, and treacherous population.

E2Writer Josh S. Henaman ventures into a new land for our heroes. One thing that hit me while I was reading is that even though the title of the comic is Bigfoot, Cantor, at times, can really come out as the pivotal character for the series. His witticisms, inner dialogue, and crazy encounters, show us that if he isn’t the main attraction, then at least he shares equal billings with Bigfoot. Oh, there is also a bizarre backstory on the Earthman that’ll trip you out.

The artwork is rich, colorful, and strong in its depth. The way the Earthman is drawn gives a sense of realism and evokes a brutish, hulking beast that commands presence on each page.

With how well written and fast paced the prior three issues were, I was a little surprised at how the pace slowed. I realize that introducing a new landscape or environment requires time to explore this new realm, add new pitfalls, and meet the indigenous creatures of the land. With all the focus on Turonia, it seemed that the antagonists of the story took a back seat. But don’t get me wrong. I love the concept of adding new terrain. That got me excited the moment I read the prologue. I feel this different paced issue was a necessity and things will be back come issue five. Still a strong outing and impressive work by the team.

Official press release for Bigfoot – Sword of the Earthman:

On October 20, 1967, a pair of hunters caught on film the image of a solitary creature in the wilds of Northern California. After a media firestorm, no credible evidence could prove the existence of this “Bigfoot” and for the next 40 years the sighting was largely deemed a hoax. On November 6th, 2007, the NASA rover, Spirit, photographed the same creature on a ridge just south of Grissom Hill. The location? Fourth planet from the sun: Mars. This winter… Action Lab discovers how he got there.

The dying planet needed a hero… what they got was a sasquatch.

Action Lab is proud to present: Bigfoot – Sword of the Earthman, an epic six-issue mini-series involving the world-famous sasquatch and his quest to defeat the ruthless emperor of a barbarian planet. Equal parts Conan and Flash Gordon, the otherworldly saga is written by Josh S. Henaman with art by Andy Taylor (line art) and Tamra Bonvillain (colorist). Bigfoot – Sword of the Earthman is not the story of how Bigfoot became a myth on Earth. It’s the story of how he became a legend of the stars.
