This sci-fi/horror series chronicles the life of Amelia Sky, a young girl who awakens in a post apocalyptic world with no memory of who she is or where she came from. Along her journey of self-discovery she finds that she holds extraordinary abilities that could save the human race from extinction by the deadliest threat the world has ever seen, an invasion of a species from the beginning of the universe. A race which lives only for energy will obtain it by any means necessary – the Shriekers. Amelia will face villains like no other, turning her from a shy, naive girl, into a calculated killing machine. She will stop at nothing to protect the friends and allies she meets along her journey, and in the end the hopeless will scream for Amelia Sky.

PopCultHQ’s Comic Book Review:
AMELIA SKY #1
“Anti-Aliasing Awakening – Pt.1”
Writer Jermaine M. Boyd splendidly tells a harsh and sobering story of a young girl’s quest. A quest to remember. A quest to find one’s identity. This post-apocalyptic imagining, though only briefly detailed, is cold and lonely. To hide is to survive. You can feel the somber curtain draped over this issue as Boyd discernibly tells this harrowing tale. The mood, the bitterness, it’s all on display as the writer puts his talent on display in tremendous fashion.
Illustrator Gwynn Tavares delivers an artistically beautiful look that isn’t what you might expect. But if you can appreciate art, its varieties, styles, methods, and the artist’s impressions, you’ll admire the the work involved and find more value in its contribution to the series. Brilliant form, great depth, and astute shading, at times it even feels as if the art takes on a softer, watercolor feel. I applaud Boyd for utilizing what appears to be a skilled artist (likely across many mediums) to help tell his story. Tavares’ style nicely captures the essence of this cold, desolate future. A very drab feel with its muted colors and dark shadows, the panels found throughout increase the realism and accompany the narrative fluidly.
PopCultHQ’s overall assessment:
After reading the synopsis for AMELIA SKY, I had hoped we might get a glimpse into Amelia’s extraordinary abilities. This first issue, however, was about describing the environment, detailing the harsh conditions, a taste of the Shriekers, and a young amnesiac struggling to make sense of it all. To be honest, that is a lot to cover in one issue and the writer and artist do so superbly in tandem. Jermaine M. Boyd has a praiseworthy story on his hands and it will be exciting to see his vision come to fruition. The artwork in AMELIA SKY might not be for everyone. Many people are so used to a certain style, look, or feel, anything outside of that is “bad” in their opinion. Personally, coming from an artistic family, I can truly appreciate what illustrator Tavares brings to the title. And not only brings, but compliments AND adds to the story. I like the look and it’s a look that will define AMELIA SKY.
This series screams potential and it’s a shame we have to wait for what’s in store next. The alluring tale that is unraveling is what will attract fans and gain a following. The fact that I have lingering questions about this story is a hat tip to writer Boyd. There is a lot in AMELIA SKY I enjoyed and so many things I look forward to seeing. This series will evoke compassion and hope. Those are powerfully heartwarming (and difficult) feelings to raise in someone, but that will be its greatest asset. Fantastic premiere issue and solid entry into the indie sci-fi market!
