Planet Comicon Kansas City returned March 8th through 10th for it’s 25th year. This event is a huge pop culture and comic book convention. Founded in 1999, it has been held annually at the Kansas City Convention Center since 2013.
This massive event feature more than 200 vendors, tons of programming, and almost 50 celebrity guests. They had evening events throughout the Power & ight District over the entire weekend and Sunday featured a Family Day with youth-focused events.
Ratings:
Our new thing for 2024 is to ask our readers to take a poll on some basic components of the con. We want to know how you rate the parking, the vendors and the food. The poll closes after 30 days and we will use this as a baseline for next years convention. We hope to eventually have a rating system set up for many of the conventions.

We realize that these don’t apply to all conventions, so if they don’t apply to your con, give them a 5 star.
**Later additions to the rating systems will include things such as guests and ticket prices**
Like any large event there are problems and many of the problems are beyond the control of the event runners. The complaints they don’t have much control over included traffic issues and parking problems. Unfortunately, there were also things happening in town. No matter how big the convention is, they can’t shut the city down for one event. Just a few of the events held this weekend in Kansas City included several St. Patrick’s celebrations, a basketball championship, a marathon and a beer festival.
Planet Comicon Kansas City Returns March 21, 2025
Problems reported regarding the actual event were pretty common. There were a LOT of problems with the autograph lines the biggest complaints there being the wait times. However, compared to many events the line for photos and autographs seemed to be relatively organized. Other problems included over crowding, rude staff, and too many funko vendors.
Artists Alley, though crowded, was a great place to invest in some new artwork. They had a good variety of local and national artists, known and unknown. There was a variety of mediums and styles, with enough art to please everyone.

Overall the event was good. People got to hang with friends and make some new ones. The cosplay was fantastic and Emily Nicolet was nice enough to share some of her photos. You might have seen her on the floor as Princess Bob Ross.
