The Internet is abuzz today with the first images of the follow-up to last summer’s Wonder Woman movie. Filming is currently going on in Washington D.C., but director Patty Jenkins and actress Gal Gadot gave us the first official look at the the movie.

Jenkins tweeted a photo this morning, showing what looks like Steve Trevor (Chris Pine) standing in the middle of a 1980’s mall. The caption says, “Welcome to WONDER WOMAN 1984, Steve Trevor! “. He fits right in with the other mall-goers, wearing a very 80’s tracksuit and sneakers.

If you’ve already seen Wonder Woman, you know that soldier Steve Trevor was killed in attempting to thwart Ares’ evil plans. So how could it be that he’s alive? It’s possible that he’s actually a relative of the Steve Trevor that we know from the first movie. In the Lynda Carter series from the 1970’s, his presence after the show’s time jump was explained by saying that the two characters were father and son. Another possibility is a simple resurrection of the character. As we all know, such a thing in comic books is commonplace.

Gal Gadot joined Jenkins by sharing a photo of her character standing in front of a bank of screens. The caption simply reads, “Wonder Woman 1984 “. Among the images are a period sports car and actor Larry Hagman on his hit soap opera Dallas.

A fan was able to catch a short video behind the scenes of filming and shared it on Twitter. Gadot, Pine, and Jenkins come together to confer on something when Pine notices the fan and waves to her. If there was any doubt before that this film was set in the 80’s, this video certainly confirms it. In addition to the tracksuit from the above photo, Pine is wearing a fanny pack, a sure sign of the decade. Gadot’s jacket is also typical women’s wear, having a very boxy shape and strong, pronounced shoulders.
