Constantine

Constantine, a TV series on NBC featuring the occultist from the Hellblazer comics, has had some ups and downs during its opening season.  The show’s future is still up in the air.  A second season hasn’t been picked up, but a decision on a season renewal should happen in May.  In the meantime, the peacock network is making the entire first season available for viewing through their website beginning today, April 24, 2015.

This move by NBC appears to be a last ditch effort to increase support for the series in order to make a decision as to the show’s future.  Executive Producer and writer for the series, Daniel Cerone, even took to Twitter to spread the word…

A synopsis of Constantine, courtesy of NBC.com…

“Based on the wildly popular comic book series “Hellblazer” from DC Comics, seasoned demon hunter and master of the occult John Constantine (Matt Ryan, “Criminal Minds”) is armed with a ferocious knowledge of the dark arts and a wickedly naughty wit. He fights the good fight – or at least he did. With his soul already damned to hell, he’s decided to abandon his campaign against evil until a series of events thrusts him back into the fray, and he’ll do whatever it takes to protect the innocent. With the balance of good and evil on the line‎, Constantine will use his skills to travel the country, find the supernatural terrors that threaten our world and send them back where they belong. After that, who knows… maybe there’s hope for him and his soul after all.”

There is no word on how long the series will be available for streaming, and it is not entirely certain if viewership will increase the chances of a second season renewal.  If anything, it gives people the opportunity to check out the episodes they might have missed, a chance to rewatch the series in its entirety, and give new viewers the ability to catch up on this great show.

What are your thoughts?  Does Constantine deserve a second season?  Will you be watching any of the episodes from NBC.com?
