[Movie News] ‘Sonic the Hedgehog’ Among Films That See Early Digital Release

If you’re a frequent reader, you may have noticed that our weekly feature of new movie releases has been missing. Well, with movie theaters in the US currently closed, there simply have been no new movies out! In fact, many movie studios have been moving back the release dates from many upcoming movies because of just that.

In order to still get their movies out there to fans, some studios are releasing some of their films that had already seen their theatrical releases onto digital far ahead of schedule. For instance, Sonic the Hedgehog, which came out February 14th, will be released on VOD on March 31st.

Among other early releases are I Still Believe, The Way Back, Bloodshot, Birds of Prey, The Hunt, Emma, Bad Boys For Life, and The Invisible Man. Disney is also getting in on the action. Not only did they release Frozen II to Disney+ three months ahead of schedule, but their new film Onward is now available on demand, but it will be coming to Disney+ on April 2nd.

The only downside to these sudden early releases? These titles are only available to buy, not rent, and it will set you back $20. But if you’d already seen any of these films and really liked them, it’s not necessarily a gamble on whether or not you’ll end up liking the film. Though if a large part of your family wanted to see a particular movie, $20 is certainly less than you’d spend seeing the same film in theaters.

What do you think about the movie industry’s shift to adapt to the current situation? Do you think this could be the future of movies?
