Two new films are out this weekend – and both are films set in the past. One is a historical-fantasy film about the lengths King Louis XIV of France would go to in search of immortality, and the other about a woman who has had nothing but betrayal in her life, but may find a way out when she falls in love.

King Louis XIV’s quest for immortality leads him to capture and steal a mermaid’s life force, a move that is further complicated by his illegitimate daughter’s discovery of the creature.
