Wonder Woman just became an Honorary Ambassador for the Empowerment of Women and Girls at the United Nations. This historic moment coincides with the iconic superhero’s official 75th Anniversary, which has been getting recognition across a number of platforms.

This past Friday, the United Nations held a live online feed of the official announcement of the DC Comics hero being assigned as Ambassador. On hand to speak about the recognition was DC Entertainment President Diane Nelson, star of the Wonder Woman television series Lynda Carter, and current iteration next to be seen on the big screen in 2017 for the upcoming Warner Bros. film Wonder Woman, Gal Gadot. Wonder Woman has been designated as the UN Honorary Ambassador for the Empowerment of Women and Girls. DC Entertainment President Diane Nelson and surprise guests were present to accept the designation on behalf of the comic book, TV and film character Wonder Woman. The designation ceremony will launch a campaign supporting Sustainable Development Goals #5 on Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment.
