PopcultHQ Theory on Marvel Comics Secret Wars; “Marvel Reboot”! Part Three of Three

That’s right folks we are getting a new “reboot” to the whole entire Marvel past, present and future with the news of 33 Marvel titles being canceled during Secret Wars. This way Marvel can concentrate all the fans attention to Secret Wars and when that is over Marvel will reboot bringing most, if not all 33 titles back again under the new post Secret Wars Marvel origins and stories. In a way this is just what DC Comics did with The New52 reboot back in 2011.

Read Parts 1 & 2 here:

What I see Marvel doing here is basically revamping every book under its new umbrella to be more kid friendly and compatible with the current continuity and state of events that have, and will have yet to happen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. You heard me right! The Marvel Cinematic Universe will converge with the “old 616” version of Marvel comic book lore, inherently revamping Marvel comics with all the changes they have made in the films. This in turn, will incorporate all major movie events and “616” comics into one streamlined comic book continuity that will be an easy jump on point for a whole slew of new fans and non-fans.

So Marvel’s announcement that they are canceling 33 books should not frighten fans at all about losing their ‘old’ beloved characters. In fact, it is the very opposite…..Marvel is doing so well with the movies they must feel they have to bring the movie fans into the comic book world so those new fans won’t be lost. What is going to be lost is the old-school Marvel loving fans who grew up on these classic storylines just the way we have enjoyed them for decades. Everything we knew from past stories will be so complexly changed and tinkered with……who knows what we will finally end up with when Marvel is sure to do their massive re-launch. I do expect to see every single title canceled almost coming back with ALL NEW #1 issues. The entire Marvel universe we all knew will, for the most part, still be there…….we as fans will just have to catch up with the ‘New Marvel’ and adjust to all the changes made.

If this is the case and I am on to what Marvel plans on doing (a whole company wide reboot to incorporate the movies), I certainly DO NOT like it at all!

I feel like I miss the pre-Secret Wars Marvel already!

“There will be a number of titles reaching, what we’re calling, a ‘616 finale,’ ending those stories and characters as you knew them – for now. In a perfect world, we’d have stopped every book with its April issue, putting out a nice clean May Previews catalog. Everyone would have seen upfront all those titles that had their finale, and all those titles that were starting fresh. But things don’t always go so easily. Instead we gave our creators the option to end their stories the way they wanted to; we let them tell “Last Days” stories if they wanted to; we let them tell ‘Secret Wars’ stories if they wanted to. So in the end ‘Secret Wars’ truly has been a creative driven process.” – Marvel’s SVP of Sales & Marketing David Gabriel, told ComicBook.com.

These are the list of books that will end at the conclusion, as a result of the “Secret Wars” event. I expect all books relaunching with all new #1 issues to coincide with The NEW Marvel:
