Life-Size Lego Batmobile Unveiled at Detroit Auto Show

What’s one thing every superhero needs? That’s right – a cool ride. Lego Batman is no exception, and this week at the Detroit Auto Show, Chevrolet unveiled a life-size Batmobile made completely from Legos.

The vehicle was created to help promote The Lego Batman Movie, which hits theaters in the U.S. February 10. The 17-foot vehicle was assembled at the Lego Model Shop in Enfield, Connecticut by Lego Master Builders, and consists of some impressive stats:

Each tire weighs 100 pounds and the entire vehicle weighs 1,695.5 pounds.

6.92 feet high, 17 feet long, and 111 inches wide.

344,187 Lego bricks were used to build the Batmobile, in 17 different colors.

It took 222 hours to design, followed by 1,833 hours to build.

The Chevrolet website lists some of the Batmobile’s impressive, fifty-two active safety features, including available vertical takeoff, X-Ray vision camera, side Batwing conversion, Scarecrow Gas detector, driver-centric bulletproof glass, available autopilot, automatic nerd alert, as well as 4G LTE Wi-Fi connection.

U.S. Vice President of Chevrolet Marketing Paul Edwards said, “To work on the Lego Batmobile with Warner Bros. is an absolute thrill for us at Chevy. Many of the themes in The Lego Batman Movie, like imagination, family and community, align perfectly with our Chevy brand values and add to the value of the partnership.”

Clearly designed to help Gotham’s Finest fight crime, it can comfortably seat two and has rocket boosters for giving you that extra bit of speed when chasing down the Joker and Riddler.
