A Legoland Vacation Part 2 – Legoland

Legoland Florida is a Lego fantatics dream come true, just make sure you have a child or two with you so you don’t seem creepy.

The park is 145 acres which means that it is the second-largest Legoland park in the world (largest is Legoland Windsor in the UK). Legoland took over the Cypress Gardens theme park, kept the botanical gardens and re-themed the rest of the park to reflect a Lego theme.

Its smaller than the other theme parks in Orlando, but when your with kids (especially if those kids love Legos) then this is the park you want to visit. We went in the off season (February) and easily saw and did everything in one day, giving us a chance to take it slower and take in the sights on the second day.

You can see statues built entirely out of Legos throughout the entire park and most of them have a plaque telling you just how many Legos it took, there are a LOT of Legos in those statues. Unfortunately, the harsh Florida sun has taken it’s toll on many of them and faded the colors making them look dingy, but the work that went into them is still amazing.

Miniland

My favorite part of the Lego Builds was Miniland USA where they recreate several cities in Lego bricks. There were also several Star Wars scenes and pirate battles recreated in Lego bricks. At many stations around miniland you could push a button and and become part of the action by activating a fountain, firing canons, or making the band strike up. Unfortunately once again, the harsh Florida sun and constant use has decayed several of the exhibits.

Legoland has Lego stores spread throughout it, each carrying a different theme. The nice thing is there is no hard sell on the products and their prices on Lego sets are comparable to what you find elsewhere.  As for the rides, there is a little bit of everything. They have splash parks, water ride, roller coasters, 4D rides, and even a driving school.

It is a great place to go for a short family vacation, where there is something for everyone.
