[Book Review] Baen Books: ‘Down and Out in Purgatory’ by Tim Powers

A complete palette of story-telling colors from Powers, including acclaimed tale “The Bible Repairman,” where a psychic handyman who supernaturally eliminates troublesome passages of the Bible for paying clients finds the remains of his own broken soul on the line when tasked with rescuing the kidnapped ghost of a rich man’s daughter. Time travel takes a savage twist in “Salvage and Demolition,” where the chance discovery of a long-lost manuscript throws a down-and-out book collector back in time to 1950s San Francisco where he must prevent an ancient Sumeric inscription from dooming millions in the future. [Convention] Harassment at Anime North Texas?

Anime North Texas (ANT) was held over the weekend of November 16th at the Sheraton DFW Airport Hotel. This event has been going on since at least 2013. Many seemed to enjoy the convention, but it seems to have had its share of problems. We have been working since earlier this year to get everything together and organized for this – staying within the guidelines. We get ready and come down the elevator and within minutes we

[Cinema Sunday] “An Ache in Every Stake” – Culinary Chaos

Thanksgiving week is here at last. Holiday preparations are well under way. And so to somewhat honor a time of togetherness, giving thanks and food, here is something extra to give thanks for. Directed by Del Lord, this reviewer found this Curly-era classic piece to be full of great humor. From ice man incidents to baking bonanzas. And all with Del Lord at the helm. Del is a man long familiar to Stooge fans as the director of some
