“Heroes Reborn” Miniseries News – Who Is Returning and Details on the Show

Heroes Reborn 2015

As big as superheroes are right now on TV and in film, it is no wonder why NBC has decided to revisit their popular 2006-2010 series.  Retitled “Heroes Reborn,” this new miniseries brings back some characters from the original series and teams them up with an all new cast.  Creator/producer Tim Kring has again partnered with NBC to spark new life into the show.  The peacock network will be employing multiple avenues to make the series available and interactive.  In using such resources like Hulu, on-demand, and by producing a digital series, the network looks to recreate the success of the initial offering.

The saga behind the 2006 breakout series “Heroes” will continue this fall as creator Tim Kring returns to the fold and develops new layers to his original superhero concept.

This highly anticipated 13-episode event series will reconnect with the basic elements of the show’s first season, where ordinary people were waking up to the fact that they had extraordinary abilities.

Original cast member Jack Coleman will reprise his role as H.R.G., Jimmy Jean-Louis returns as The Haitian, and Masi Oka will be back as Hiro Nakamura. Also joining the cast are Zachary Levi (of NBC’s “Chuck” and the Marvel franchise “Thor”), Ryan Guzman (“The Boy Next Door”), Robbie Kay (“Once Upon a Time”), Danika Yarosh (“Shameless”), Judith Shekoni (“The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2”), Kiki Sukezane (“Death Yankee 3”), Henry Zebrowski (NBC’s “A to Z”) and Gatlin Green (“Criminal Minds”).

With the return of “Heroes Reborn,” NBC will launch a digital series prior to the premiere that will introduce new characters and storylines that will take the “Heroes” phenomenon to new places. NBC’s digital platforms, as well as Hulu and video-on-demand, will debut the online prequel to the series prior to the show’s premiere.

Tim Kring, Peter Elkoff and James Middleton will serve as executive producers.

Produced by Imperative Entertainment, in association with Universal Television, “Heroes Reborn” will air in fall 2015 on NBC.

Here are the actors returning as main cast regulars…

Jack Coleman as Noah Bennett
Jack Coleman as Noah Bennett

Noah Bennet:
Jack Coleman did a fantastic job as The Company man Noah Bennet.  As an agent seeking out people with “gifts,” he initially appeared to play an antagonist role.  He tracked down individuals with super powers, oftentimes abducting people against their will in order to “protect” the world’s population from their secret.  Even his sheltering of his adoptive daughter Claire (portrayed by Hayden Panettiere), who he learned had the ability to regenerate, could make viewers despise his tactics.  Ultimately, Bennet became an integral focal point of the series and to those with special abilities.  Good to see Horned-Rimmed Glasses back in action!

Jimmy Jean-Louis as The Haitian

The Haitian:
Jimmy Jean-Louis‘ character possessed the ability to erase some, or all, of someone’s memories.  His presence also acted as an ability damper that when one with powers was in his presence, they found they lost the ability to use their gifts.  With The Haitian returning, expect him to continue his relationship with Noah Bennet, of whom he was the right-hand man.

Below are the actors returning as guest appearances…

Sendhil Ramamurthy as Mohinder Suresh
Sendhil Ramamurthy as Mohinder Suresh

Mohinder Suresh:
The son of a geneticist who was investigating the supernatural phenomena bestowed upon seemingly ordinary people, Mohinder continued his father’s work following his passing.  Sendhil Ramamurthy brought a lot to the series; he sought out the special individuals, worked towards creating a cure, and even created a formula allowing anyone to possess these random super powers.  He even went so far as trying this formula out on himself (to disastrous results).  Even though Mohinder won’t be a series regular, his contribution will certainly be noteworthy.

Masi Oka as Hiro Nakamura
Masi Oka as Hiro Nakamura

Hiro Nakamura:
Everyone’s favorite time-traveler, Masi Oka brought humor and a light air to the series.  Given the ability to bend space and time, Hiro teleported not only to different locales to help others with abilities, he also could move though time and see events in the future, which he would attempt to correct.  His interaction with practically every “Hero” on the series made him a vital factor on the show.  His return is practically a necessity.

Greg Grunberg as Matt Parkman
Greg Grunberg as Matt Parkman

Matt Parkman:
The police officer turned FBI aide turned bodyguard endured a roller coaster of events.  Matt learns he has telepathic abilities and later realizes that he can also control one’s mind and actions through thought.  He had to deal with an unfaithful wife (who slept with an officer on his force) which led to a divorce.  He developed a relationship with Daphne (gifted with the power of super speed) and they wind up getting married and raising a son.  Greg Grunberg made Matt Parkman someone with whom you could relate.  Watching his performance, his portrayal made it seem like this is how a regular person would truly react learning of one’s hidden abilities.  His return could only benefit the series.

Noah Gray-Cabey as Micah Sanders
Noah Gray-Cabey as Micah Sanders

Micah Sanders:
The child of D.L. and Niki Sanders, Micah was a gifted prodigy before discovering his ability.  Coming from parents who also had powers (D.L. could phase through objects and Niki possessed dissociative identitity disorder that accompanied superhuman strength), Micah showed that he too was “special.”  He was what is called a technopath, which is a person with the ability to “talk” to machines.  It will be interesting to see how they use Noah Gray-Cabey‘s character and explain his parents whereabouts.  Noah, now 19 years old in real life, will likely play a larger and more adult role in this new series.
