Welcome to the 7th edition of Reptile’s Weird Home Brews for Dungeons & Dragons 5E. I hope you have been enjoying this series of articles and put them to work in your games.

This week, we get a little weirder with some crusty armor and a gleaming crest.

Armor of the Crustalien

Armor (Light, Medium, Heavy, can be worn by any armor wearing class) (requires attunement)

AC 17 plus ability bonuses, Crab Claw 1D6+1 bludgeoning damage + strength bonus, Blind sight up to 30′,  Crab summoning (Call of the Crab)

From the deep comes the armor of the Crustalien. This armor is made from giant crab carapaces and encases the entire body of its wearer. The armor is also equipped with a large crab claw over the left hand. The claw functions as a weapon and on a successful attack, the target is grappled.  A save against the wearer’s strength score is needed to break free.

Crab Summoning: acts the same as the 3rd level Conjure Animals spell, but only summons crabs. Up to 12 normal crabs can be summoned or a single Giant Crab. The crabs will do the summoners bidding and will be friendly to the summoner and their allies.

Side effect of wearing this armor is the wearer is attracted to eating trash. The wearer can eat trash safely while in the Crustalien armor and must do so at least once every seven days to maintain the armor’s AC score. Failing to do so causes the armor to lose 1 AC point per each 7-day period. If the armor reaches 0 AC, the armor falls apart and is ruined.

Crest of the Hero

Decorative Pin, Very Rare (Good Alignments only)

The Crest of the Hero is a pin that is meant to be worn on your clothing as a decorative piece. Speak the power word “KABLAM” and there will be a flash of light and a small cloud of smoke out of which the wearer’s steps converted into “The Realm Warrior”. The wearer’s cloths are transformed in this transition into pristine white and gold tight fitting tunic and britches with a flowing gold cape and mask. The wearer’s voice and gaze becomes commanding and their attributes become superhero like for 5 minutes.

Attributes:

Commanding Voice; acts as 1st level Charm spell

Commanding Gaze : acts as 3rd level Fear Spell

Other Bonuses:

AC becomes 20, Strength 20, Dexterity 20, Charisma 20

The effects of the Crest last for 5 minutes and cannot be ended sooner and then requires 2 long rests before it can be used again. If the Crest is used after only a single long rest the effects will only last for 2 minutes and it will not be usable again until after 3 long rests.
