Game of Thrones Creators Join the Star Wars Universe

David Benioff and D.B. Weiss

We all know that the Star Wars Universe is expanding and it looks like the latest addition to this universe will be via Game of Thrones creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss.

It was announced yesterday on the Star Wars website that they will be producing a new series of films (let me guess…another trilogy?) that will be separate from those being developed by Rian Johnson, writer-director of Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

“David and Dan are some of the best storytellers working today,” said Kathleen Kennedy, president of Lucasfilm. “Their command of complex characters, depth of story and richness of mythology will break new ground and boldly push Star Wars in ways I find incredibly exciting.”

There are no announcements regarding storylines, casting or release dates. The Game of Thrones final season is not expected to air until 2019. Bernioff and Weiss are both currently working on GoT, which means the new films will be in the far future. Development of the new Star Wars series will not start until after the final story of Westeros is complete.
