First Look at ‘Fantastic Beasts 2’ Cast, Title Announced

Ever since Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them came out last year, fans of J.K. Rowling’s magical world have been waiting with bated breath for the continuation of Newt Scamander’s adventures.When the sequel was announced even before Fantastic Beasts was released, speculation began about how the story could continue. It was then announced that Johnny Depp would be joining the Harry Potter world as the dark wizard Gellart Grindelwald. The first image for the film was tweeted by the movie’s Twitter account earlier this year, and filming for the movie began in July.

Today, the movie’s official title was released alongside the first cast photo. Fantastic Beasts 2 will be known as Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, and will be released November 16, 2018. Directed by David Yates, this is the second of five planned movies in the Harry Potter prequel film franchise.

There have been several additions to the cast, most notably Jude Law as Albus Dumbledore, the future headmaster of Hogwarts and former friend of Grindelwald. You can see him in the above photo on the far left. Dumbledore and Grindelwald are posed at opposite ends of the photo, showing how the two wizards are no longer the close friends they used to be. In the film, Grindelwald has escaped custody and will be gathering new followers to his nefarious cause. Dumbledore has enlisted the help of Newt Scamander to catch him. According to Pottermore, The Crimes of Grindelwald,will see love and loyalties tested in this tumultuous time in the wizarding world.”

On the official Fantastic Beasts Twitter account,  the still photo into a moving wizard-photo that then morphs into the movie’s logo.

 

 

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald will be in theaters Nov 16, 2018.
