Recently, Reptile shared a review of some contacts he had the opportunity to try out from our friends at Coloured Contacts, and we’ve shared an interview with them about their products and the most common questions about them. I also had the opportunity to try some of their contacts and thought I would share my thoughts.
I’ve been wearing contacts for a long time. So while this was my first time wearing colored contacts, it wasn’t my first time wearing contacts. I wear my regular contacts all day long, so if a pair on contacts is going to start to irritate my eyes after only a couple of hours, they’re not something I would wear. Fortunately, I did not have that problem with the pair I received from ColouredContacts.com.
I cosplay quite a few blue-eyed characters, but do not have blue eyes myself, so I opted to try out a pair of their Air Optix Colors Brilliant Blue Prescription Colored Contact Lenses. One of the things I appreciated about ordering the contacts is that it gives you the option to select whether the prescription (ranging from +5.0 to -6.0) for each eye is that same or not, and enter the strengths accordingly. If you are lucky enough to not need help seeing, they have contacts available for you as well.
Since my eyes have different prescriptions, I received two packs of two lenses each, along with a bottle of contact solution and a lens case. I’ve worn the lenses a handful of times now, both for a couple hours for cosplay events and half a day at a convention, as well as for several full days. This has been my first time wearing colored lenses, and I didn’t notice much of a difference from wearing my everyday lenses. I never had any issues of them feeling dry or irritating my eyes. The pair I selected had a very vivid color to them, and I have to say they’ve been quite fun to wear. The color is certainly noticeable, and it’s been enjoyable to change up my eye color. My family was a little surprised at the change, and a number of acquaintances have been taken aback and asking if that really is my eye color!
In addition to Air Optix, the other brands carried by the site include chromaview, TORIcolors, and Freshlook Color Blends. If you’re looking for something specific, there are handy quick links at the top of the home page that allows you to filter by style, occasion, prescription lenses, and Halloween. At the bottom of each page are comfort and transparency scales for each products. If you need lenses for a cosplay that completely blocks out your pupil, the website has “blind” lenses that will make it very hard to see. They also have a “mesh” style that give a similar effect but might make it slightly easier to see. With both the blind and mesh styles, the website advises that the wearer should not drive with these lenses in.
If you’ve never worn contacts before, the website has some handy how-to guides, showing to how to put them in, take them, out, and how to care for them. I’m not sure if the contact solution is included with the purchase of lenses, but they also have a few “fun” lens cases if you would like to purchase those. It should be noted that the company recommends making an appointment with your eye doctor before using contact lenses, as they can best advise you if your eyes are suitable.
