The Northwest Indiana Comic Convention (NWICC) was held at the Lake County Fairgrounds in Crown Point, Indiana on Saturday, February 10th. The show was celebrating its 10th anniversary this year.
The NWICC is a Family-Friendly, Affordable, Fun Comic Book Convention that offers affordable admission, Free Parking, VIP Guests, Artist Alley, Comic, Collectible and Pop-Culture Dealers, Two On-Stage Cosplay Contests, Cheap Food Concessions and more!
It’s been a few years since I last attended this fun event, back when the convention was still being held at it’s old location in Schererville, IN. Even back then, the con was barely containing it’s attendees, so I was glad to see it’s new, larger space. I arrived about half and hour after opening, and the line was out the door. The aisles were packed with attendees much of the day, though they did taper off a bit towards the end of the day after a number of the cosplay contests.
There were a host of artists, crafters, and more for con-goers to browse as they walked the aisles. Some of my favorites were The Satrun Twins, Serpent & Flame Candle Co., Sew Quiltable, and Wulfgar Props. I made a few purchases for myself, though I certainly could have bought much more!
Whether you were a vendor or attendee, NWI Comic-Con is a great event for all. It’s also a fun way to start the convention season for many! A number of vendors I spoke to used this event as a dry-run before bigger cons, seeing what particular items fans might be most interested in and selecting what layout best displays their wares. It’s also perfect for attendees because, while there were fun events on the main stage most of the day, it did not have the same frantic energy of some the largest cons. You could take in all the con had to offer without feeling you were missing out or constantly running around. This gave people time to linger longer at tables, talk shop with fellow cosplayers, and spend more time catching up with friends you haven’t seen in a few months.
When I wasn’t busy cosplaying, shopping, or catching up with friends, I managed to snaps a few photos of my fellow cosplayers!
Rate the Con
Our new thing for 2024 is to ask our readers to take a poll on some basic components of the con. We want to know how you rate the parking, the vendors, and the food. The poll closes after 30 days and we will use this as a baseline for next year’s convention. We plan to keep a rating system set up for many of the conventions we cover and promote.
