FAN EXPO Chicago 2023 returned to the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center on August 10th and runs though August 13th for their 2023 show.
The first day of FAN EXPO Chicago is always a little slow. This is the day to scope out the place and get the lay of the land. In some ways, I was impressed with they did this year. In others, disappointed.
Once again, there is only one hall in use for the event, which means that some of the vendor rows are tight. A few of them felt crowded and with Thursday’s meager crowd, I can only imagine how packed they will be on a Saturday. The Community (a.k.a. cosplay) area was well laid out, or at least I thought it was until I found several of the guest cosplayers shoved over in a corner by Artist Alley. Several of them are over in the “Comic Pro” area across from the Creator Stage. Please be sure to visit them.
One of the my biggest complaints is the heat; you can feel a few fans blowing occasionally, but there is no air conditioning. If you plan to bring a warmer costumer, be prepared to melt. I was in a t-shirt and jeans, in a time with minimal crowd, and it was almost too warm. If they don’t get the AC on by Saturday, we will all die.
