We asked crafters, cosplayers, and creators what was one (1) crafting material that they needed almost every time they made a new cosplay. There was a huge variety of material that people use, but in the end, it essentially boiled down to five main components.
1. EVA Foam
EVA Foam is a base for many of the big cosplays you see, as it is a versatile material. Most start out with the lower quality (and much cheaper) floor mats and move up to the higher quality.
2. Fabric
The next most popular material was “Fabric.” This can be used for everything from sewing your entire cosplay to adding finishing touches or creating accessories. The only limitations are your imagination. You can pick it up in swatches, bolts, or pre-cut pieces, in any size you want or need.
3. Polymer Clay
A versatile medium that comes in a variety of colors and can be shaped into absolutely anything.
4. Duct Tape
Duct tape is frequently used underneath materials or to hold them together. It can also be used in its own right as part of the cosplay itself.
5. Spray Paint
