Flynn struggles with a series of humiliating defeats…that are making him more popular than ever! As a new generation of gladiators is unleashed on the battlefield, they’re none too happy with a soldier who refuses to stay dead.

PopCultHQ’s Comic Book Review:
VS #3

Writing:

Ivan is giving Flynn a real taste of what comes with being a ‘hero.’ Not only do readers get to see past defeats, they also are shown just how little he means to his fellow warriors off the battlefield. Plus, everyone takes a look behind the curtain at the figures who keep the wars going, all for the sake of ratings.

Art:

Esad’s art brings new aspects of the world of VS to life. From the streets of the cities to the heights of the refuge. A particular thing to note is new characters and their bizarre alien forms, that while humanoid, are all distinctly eye-popping. There isn’t one thing that doesn’t come alive throughout this new issue because of the continuous quality work of Esad Ribić.

Nic Klein’s colorist skills are killer. As previously mentioned, Esad’s art introduces readers to new characters. And Nic’s colors help bring those characters to life. Another aspect where his coloring takes a firm hold is with the various new ads scattered throughout the comic.

Aditya keeps going above and beyond with the lettering. Great placement, unique voices, and beautiful style, the high-quality you’ve come to expect from Bidikar.

Tom Muller is the genius behind the designs for the ads themselves. And what ads they are. Selling products like ‘invisible pets’ or ‘Cherry Combat’ beverages and ‘Demarzan.’ Only a mind such as Tom’s, one that is full of rich creativity, could contrive such advertisements as these to help push the idea of this being a truly alien world.

PopCultHQ’s overall assessment:

As with Dorothy, it’s time for a peek behind the curtain. Prepare to meet the “heads” of the wars, who may ultimately decide the fate of Satta Flynn. What will await Flynn on the next field of combat as well as off it. Picking up this issue will start to answer some of those questions.

PopCultHQ’s Rating:

5 Out of 5 Stars
