Writing: Oscar’s writing for this project is outstanding. Taking the best elements of post-apocalyptic survivor stories, and combining it with the themes of family, growing up, and finding oneself in a world gone mad is a cocktail of creative brilliance. He creates characters that readers not only connect and feel empathy with, but will find something of themselves in as well. That sort of writing is powerful stuff, the kind of thing that stands out above so much of the material out there in the market today. And it makes SOLO one heck of a graphic novel.

Art: With regards to Oscar’s artwork, it is simply out of this world. Many will look at its cartoon style and write this book off as simply something for children. Once they see the world Oscar has built with not only his writing but the artwork, it will leave people amazed. It is tough, it is gritty, it is a kill-or-be-killed Mad Max-style wasteland. Everyone is brought to life by Oscar’s art, from the protagonist to the villains, to the creatures that roam the wastes searching for a next meal. This is a dark and dangerous world Oscar has created, and the art shows it off in an amazing way.

From frozen wastes to harsh deserts, the world of Oscar Martin’s SOLO is one not to be treated lightly. There are raiders, pirates, Roman-style Circus Maximus arenas of death, horrifying creatures, and more. There is something for everyone who appreciates good survivor/apocalypse-style storytelling and art. This book is a worthwhile read and will be enjoyed by anyone who picks it up
