PopCultHQ’s Comic Book Review:
The Quantum Age: From the World of Black Hammer #1
Writing:
Jeff is gonna keep on rocking, keep on rocking till he can’t rock anymore. And the beat is a sweet one. Black Hammer is a bomb-blast of creative force. And with every spin-off series, the universe of Black Hammer has another brick laid upon its foundation. With Quantum Age, readers are taken into the far future. A dark one, where only a short time ago, heroes were loved. Now they are reviled. See what happens and get ready for another Black Hammer roller coaster ride courtesy of Jeff’s terrific writing.
Art:
Wilfredo Torres and his art will knock people’s socks off. It’s safe to say Jeff did right by bringing Wilfredo on for this series. Each of his character designs are stellar. Each Quantum League member carries a look and costume that befits their unique planet of origin and powers. Now don’t get this reviewer started on the action pages. These are pure gold, spun into finest artistic wonder. Wilfredo has fired a shot across the bow, a shot that will bring more and more excellence.
Dave Stewart keeps popping up quite a bit…and for good reason. The man is a coloring wonder. Pairing the color choices he has made to Wilfredo’s art, well, it’s a sight to behold. When the art and story take a sharp turn, Dave takes a sharp turn with it. Colors to represent the bleakness of the future and the repressive nature of how things are under martial law. This is both eye-catching and, at the same time, it feeds out to dampen the spirit. That shows how powerful Dave’s work is.
Nate Piekos, letterer to the future. Quantum League is very much a serious book, but with light dialogue in some places near the start. So the lettering is a combination of work that evokes different moods and energy. On one hand, it is punchy and great and full of hope. And on the other hand, it is also heavy-handed and can bring one down. If this is what kind of work Nate is doing now, this reviewer is excited to see what he does ahead.
PopCultHQ’s overall assessment:
Time to bring Black Hammer into the world of tomorrow, today. Meet the Quantum League. A team unlike any other, bringing heroes together from all walks of life. But what happens when the fight is too much for them? What disastrous consequences await the valiant group? Loyal Black Hammer lovers will need to get a copy and find out.
