PopCultHQ’s Comic Book Review:
Oblivion Song #1

Writing:

Robert Kirkman has delivered up a brand new adventure comic for fans. It combines elements of science fiction in a way that has beautiful symmetry. Readers will thrill to each page of action that takes place within the Oblivion and cheer for Nathan Cole as he battles to save the remaining citizens of the City of Brotherly Love. This is an all-in, one-of-a-kind story that should not be missed.

Art:

Lorenzo’s art defies all things. While there is art that takes place out in the real world, it’s the artwork for the Oblivion that really sells it. A dimension of monsters and strange things, where alien life runs rampant. And Lorenzo has brought that world to life in a way that is both creepy and compelling, where the unknown lurks around every corner.

Annalisa helped set a strong tone for the series with her colors. Like with Lorenzo’s artwork, the colors for Oblivion are bizarre and aid in selling the series. Every nuance of that dimensional space, from the monsters that dwell within to the remains of Philadelphia itself, all of it done up in garish and striking colors.

Rus Wooton’s work as letterer for issue #1 is strong. Especially when it comes to the lettering for hero Nathan Cole. Cole is a strong, determined character, but he also has ghosts too. Rus captures that all fantastically with his lettering. In many ways, it is the lettering that gives Nathan his heroic persona for readers to latch onto. And that is all thanks to Rus.

PopCultHQ’s overall assessment:

Come one and come all. Enter into Oblivion. A land where nothing is what it seems and danger abounds. See the start of Nathan Cole’s saga to once again traverse this dread place and bring as many of Philadelphia’s citizens back into the world as he can. It’s thrills and chills and all waiting within these printed pages.

PopCultHQ’s Rating:

5 Out of 5 Stars
