PopCultHQ’s Comic Book Review:
TONY STARK: IRON MAN #3

Writing:

Dan Slott is really killing it with this new Iron Man series. It embraces all the new technology and current social views of the 21st century. Dan then weds them to the roguish genius of Tony Stark. This is a Tony Stark who is still the same old brilliant playboy hero of past decades. But now Tony is working towards making strides in fields that benefit his company’s customers, as well as his employees. Issue #3 is equal parts superhero comic and a story about family, the Stark Enterprises family.

Art:

Valerio’s artwork, oh wow, is it gorgeous. There is an endless amount of detail, down to the very last tree or lock of hair. Fans of Valerio’s style will really appreciate said detail in pages with Stark, his team, and customers traversing their way through The Great eScape, his latest breakthrough in virtual reality. This really has some stellar layout and art that will really pull the reader in and along through the story.

Edgar and Rachelle, working hand-in-hand to bring it with the colors. And with parts of the story taking place inside The Great eScape, they go pretty hog wild on coloring. Bright, vibrant hues, all mixed together to paint the vivid picture of this cyber-space. And that means that within the eScape, all the colors can be whatever Edgar and Rachelle choose, whether normal or entirely new. It’s a regular color-mania here, and very eye-popping.

There is a lot of witty banter and dialogue lettered here by Travis Lanham. And some intense plot-moving stuff too. Whether it’s the scenes with Stark and his friends enjoying time together, or the heavy action within eScape with Machine Man, it’s all great stuff. Travis really is at home here with the rest of the Iron Man crew, and this reviewer expects more great things from him.

PopCultHQ’s overall assessment:

Tony Stark makes you feel he’s a cool exec with a heart of steel. Or rather a heart of gold and a brain of pure imagination. This issue, Tony and friends are headed into cyberspace. Take a journey into The Great eScape. But be careful, because Machine Man wants to crash the party. A thrilling third issue that sets the stage for more to come.
