PopCultHQ’s Comic Book Review:
Deadpool: Assassin #4
Writing:
Having successfully murderized his way out of New Orleans, Cullen’s got good ol’ DP doing the only logical thing next – taking his new partner/sidekick and going on a spree of jobs! And we all know what that means…montage!!! That’s right, Cullen has a marvelous montage of missions happening throughout the book. This is followed by some intense circling back to an earlier plot-point that will both surprise and delight all Deadpool fans.
Art:
As previously stated, there’s some serious montage action going on in this 4th issue. Which means Mark gets to draw all kinds of crazy adventures for Deadpool and Threnody to go on. From tackling Mojo and Mojo World to stealing Ghost Rider’s motorcycle. DP and Thren are doing it all and more. Plus, later on fans will get some sweet fight sequences when baddies come a-calling to everyone’s favorite Weasel and his unsuspecting wife. Can you say, “Super awesome fight pages”? Because yes, that is correct.
For the inks in the 4th issue, there’s a lot of heavy use of dark ink for intense shadows and low-light areas. John employs shadows to emphasis certain things, how dark a location is during one of the montage panels, or the fight scenes at the end in the dead of night. Not to mention the great inkwork on all the characters and suits and weapons and things like explosions and dramatic moments.
Edgar and Dono pump things up with all the colors. It’s a like a unicorn smashed into a rainbow and both exploded in here. Page-to-page and panel-to-panel chock full of bright colors, primaries and secondaries. These two fine colorists have gone above and beyond this time and it’s that kind of excellence and dedication that makes this issue fun and enjoyable.
Joe gets to letter some really fun dialogue and words here. Especially all those little moments with Deadpool and Threnody going on all kinds of adventures. It makes this reviewer wish there was a miniseries of just those adventures alone, so Joe could fully letter them and help bring them to life. For now, loyal DP fans will have to be content with Joe’s fine work here and in the rest of the series.
PopCultHQ’s overall assessment:
Awwww…Deadpool gonna take us home tonight. Awwww…down beside that red firelight. And he gonna show us how to get things done. It’s a major mission/kill-crazy issue here. Chock full of one-liners, adventure, gratuitous violence and, of course…ninjas! Because what Deadpool comic is complete without ninjas. Many bloody/severed thumbs up go to buying this comic and taking it home right away.
PopCultHQ’s Rating:
5 out of 5 Stars
