Erik Larsen is and always will be a genius of a comic writer. Since breaking into the industry years ago and as a founder of Image comics, Erik has been blazing trails ever since. This latest trade that chronicles more adventures of Dragon, his son and their loved ones and friends, proves that the trail keeps on blazing bright. Everything that makes Savage Dragon great and exemplifies Erik’s writing style is in this book, making it a must-read for all Savage Dragon devotees.

Art:

On artwork, Erik killed it big time. Not one page throughout the book is dull. It’s high-stakes, multiverse-saving action all around. And when there is a particular issue dealing with the President and a pseudo-satire surrounding current policies, the artwork gets a tad more real-world centered. But it is still highly engaging and will draw in readers as it tantalizes the imagination.

Nikos was a coloring dynamo. It was like the entire known color palette was utilized to bring Erik’s artwork to full-form life. Some of the best pages with his work are the big splashy battle sequences, with lots of characters and energy flashes and explosions galore. Those are the very epitome of superhero action made real, and colored gloriously by Nikos.

For lettering, Chris hit a big home run. Savage Dragon, Malcolm, Glum, Darklord, every character, both heroes and villains, received the full Eliopoulos lettering treatment. There’s something infused within the lettering for everyone that conveys a lot of emotion, power, all the kinds of things that have made super-characters leap into people’s hearts and minds over the years.
