November 1966. London. John Lennon can’t speak. He can’t take his eyes off the photo of a car in flames with Paul McCartney’s body inside. His friend is no longer here, and that means the Beatles are no longer here either. But John wants to know the truth, and with George and Ringo, he will begin to re-examine the final hours of Paul’s life. Set in the magical atmosphere of Abbey Road Studios during the writing sessions for Sgt. Pepper, PAUL IS DEAD is the definitive version of the legend of Paul McCartney’s death.
PopCultHQ’s Comic Book Review:
PAUL IS DEAD OGN
The Beatles are one of the most beloved and well-known bands of all time. Their music is played on the radio, has been adapted for movies, TV shows, the list goes on and on. Now take a step back into their world through one of the most powerful mediums of all, graphic novels.
Writing: Paolo’s writing on this is unbelievable. The script is engaging and gets readers hooked right away into this alternate world where one of their own is seemingly dead. Add into the mix the sidestory of them working on their next album while this is going on, and it makes for a very layered and nuanced story. No matter what.
Art/Colors: Ernesto does a smashing job as both artist and colorist on this OGN. He brings the Fab Four to life in a very realistic way, so much so that this reviewer felt as if they were all in the room while enjoying this book. There is a section where things get downright trippy, so be prepared for that. And the color choices for this are utterly beautiful. A wide assortment of bright tones for both characters and background, all blended together with the art to serve up a symphony of visual amazement.
In the years since their breakup, John, Paul, George, and Ringo are still beloved throughout the world. The work these four accomplished together is still heralded as some of the most ground-breaking music of all time. And thanks to Paolo and Ernesto, now fans can enjoy them through this brilliantly written and lavishly drawn OGN. So come along for a wild ride, because it is one that no one will want to miss out on.
