The puzzle pieces begin to fall.
PopCultHQ’s Comic Book Review:
Gideon Falls #2
Writing:
For issue #2, Jeff has taken things into a mixed plot direction. It feels as though it is one part police procedural and one part twisted horror story. Something like a mashup between Law and Order and Twilight Zone or H.P. Lovecraft. Whatever direction the tale is headed in, whatever the purpose is behind the Black Barn and the heroes, Jeff will keep serving up a series full of suspense and surprises.
Art:
The artwork this time takes on fresh detail. Andrea makes great use of long rectangular panels to widen a scene like a trick with a film camera. This allows the reader to get a perspective on the pace of the story that may have not been there in issue #1. Also, everyone should be on the lookout for a fantastic artistic surprise in the middle that is sure to throw a great many people off their guard.
Dave’s colors further project the strange nature of issue #2. Not only the strange nature, but the darkness within the story and the art. His color choices are all somewhat bleak. There are a few instances of sharp, bright color, but these are overwhelmed by the sheer morbidity of the rest of the colors throughout the comic.
Within issue #2, the lettering hasn’t changed all that much for character dialogue. Certain words are given particular emphasis in bold to hit their point home, but other than that, it is still rock solid but not any different from issue #1.
PopCultHQ’s overall assessment:
What is the purpose behind the Black Barn? And what of Father Quinn? Will Norton and his therapist uncover the secrets of barn? Pick up issue #2 and find out.
PopCultHQ’s Rating:
4 Out of 5 Stars
