Cosmic Ghost Rider #2

Since we kicked off kicked off this series last time together, I felt compelled to continue on the follow-up for you all. Just in case anyone out there is actually following my cliffnotes before they decide to run out and buy this series.

Writing:

Donny Cates is on something, something really strong and very mind-altering. That’s the only thing I can imagine. Otherwise, he is one messed up individual and would probably be realy awesome to hang out with! So Frank Castle as the Cosmic Ghost Rider has taken baby Thanos into the past. He feels this is his only way to rehibilitate the child so he doesn’t grow up to become the death-hungry Thanos. Except the baby is already death-hungry and I feel Frank can’t see it.

Frank takes baby Thanos drinking, which is some of the most surreal imagery I have ever seen in comic books. Even here, baby Thanos is itching to start bar fights. Frank has found a small, forgotten planet which Galactus (whom Frank calls Galan) proving in Frank’s time, he and Galactus were that close. Well, Galactus is coming to eat this small planet. Frank visits Galactus with baby Thanos, who reads his mind and learns his own fate: his death at the hands of Thanos. So Galactus wants to destroy baby Thanos, but Frank won’t allow it as Frank has decided he wants to raise baby Thanos on his own. Even Uatu the Watcher, who is still alive in this time period, shows up and says “This is a bad idea, Francis.” Just when Frank is about to leave, he’s attacked by Cable and his Guardians of the Galaxy: himself, Rocket, Kamala Khan all grown-up with Captain America’s shield as Captain Marvel, a grown-up Jubilee, and The Juggernaut, though it looks like Howard the Duck as Juggernaut.

This future Guardians line-up simply blew my little fanboy mind. Howard the Duck as a would-be Juggernaut!? Awesome! Although, I’m assuming it’s Howard, but it’s not a far-fetched assumption, same with the adult Kamala Khan.

So, needless to say, next issue promises a showdown between the insane Cosmic Ghost Rider, who was once the Punisher, and this future Guardians of the Galaxy!

Art:

Same as last month, Dylan Burnett is an okay artist, but his renditions of characters in this issue don’t jump off the page for me. However, his Cosmic Ghost Rider and baby Thanos are enough for me as something in the issue I do visually enjoy. I love the facial expressions of baby Thanos.

PopCultHQ’s overall assessment:

It was hilarious enough in the first issue to bring me back for more. Now it just got down right peculiar and I’ll be back for the 3rd issue for sure. It’s a cosmic odyssey of the Marvel Universe, but done Deadpool-style and without Deadpool for once. Least I hope he doesn’t show up in one of these issues before the end of the series. But yeah, I had fun with this issue.

It’s weird enough for me and I am a HUGE Howard the Duck fan! I simply cannot get enough of Howard. When he turned up in Guardians of the Galaxy on screen, I cheered! This book, if you want something off the wall, strange and just different but most of all fun, then Cosmic Ghost Rider is for you.
