PopCultHQ’s Comic Book Review:
Bloodshot Salvation #9

Writing:

Jeff and Ray write a touching narrative here. The tale of Bloodshot’s loyal best friend. His Snoopy, set during a time and place where Snoopy felt truly at home. Witness, through excellent writing from these two writers, a tale of a dog and how it became the fantastic beast that has been by Bloodshot’s side these many years.

Art:

Renato’s art here is less the stuff of super-heroics and nightmarish material. Augmented with the addition of Ray’s ‘best friend’ and his canine brothers, it almost feels like one of the old war comics DC famously put out during the 1960s. The renderings of the horror of the trench and no man’s land of WWI will churn people a bit, but also give them a solid reminder that even the most despairing of places can craft a hero.

Simon’s letters for issue #8 are very different. There’s no expletives or intense, impassioned speeches lettered here. There is clipped, precise, military dialogue. There is a fervent hope behind the words of all the characters. An optimism born of a time when the world was going to blazes and hope was pinned on even the most unusual of things. Simon grabs that optimism and channels it directly into his work here.

PopCultHQ’s overall assessment:

For all who wondered where Bloodshot’s pal got his start, here is the answer. A lifetime ago, born into a world of war and violence and bloodshed. It is the Genesis of a hero, even one who chases his tail or whimpers in his sleep. A worthwhile addition to the Bloodshot Salvation line and the Bloodshot universe.
