PopCultHQ’s Comic Book Review:
ARCHIE MEETS BATMAN ’66 #1

Writing:

Jeff and Michael have presented a comic book masterpiece. It is equal parts superhero and equal parts wholesome teen comedy. Add a dash of nostalgia, a sprinkle of punchy dialogue, and a well-crafted plot opener. Shake well. And blamo! Readers are served up a crossover the likes of which will never be seen again.

Art:

Dan does dynamic artwork supremely superb. It’s not overly flashy. Instead it is soft and subtle, not in your face. The art hearkens back to the days of comics in the 60’s when the characters were full of innocence and the layouts were crisp. There’s so much to see and appreciate on every page Dan has done, with promises of more to come in future issues.

J. Bone’s inking is insane. Seriously, the work speaks for itself. Especially with things like the Dynamic Duo’s costumes and the action lines, along with all the other items. Particular point of attention is the pages when a certain villainous four show up. Pages 3-4, 13-14 and page 22 also made this reviewer stop, stare and admire the inking quality as well.

Kelly Fitzpatrick. A colorist of excellent skill and ability. Being on board a book like this means it’s colors galore. From Batman and Robin’s, well everything, to details like Archie’s jalopy, sky, grass, tress, all of it. Page upon page of color magnificence. Page 22 is also a testament to Kelly’s color work. When readers see what is on page 22, they will know what is meant by that.

Jack Morelli. Letterer among letterers. When given a book like this with characters being scripted in a more classic comics style, that means one of the best is called in. And for Archie Meets Batman ‘66, that best is Jack. Like all the rest of the creative team, he puts his all into issue #1. With his all, comes the taste of what will happen again and again.

PopCultHQ’s Overall Assessment:

America’s Favorite Boyfriend teaming up with Gotham’s Caped Crusader. A story in the making, finally being told. And telling the tale is a team of super-talent. Banded together with one purpose, to show what happens when Archie Comics and DC do a crossover. Grab a copy or be left in the dust trail as the story zooms on.
