Chris Pratt Surprises Kids From His Hometown With Video Call From Set of Guardians 2

Guardians of the Galaxy star Chris Pratt wants to help out his hometown. Growing up, Pratt spent a lot of time at the community center in Lake Stevens, Washington. It helped him stay out of trouble, have fun and meet other kids. In revisiting where he grew up, he noticed that the population has grown considerably and there are more kids than there are places for kids to go. Enter Omaze.

Pratt started an Omaze campaign in hopes of funding a new teen center in Lake Stevens. Since he graduated in 1998, Chris has seen his once small town more than triple in population. “There’s not as much to do,” he explains. “Y’know, there’s kids getting in trouble. The community center is where I went to stay out of trouble, and I love the idea of using the influence I have to create a space to have good, clean, healthy fun.

Established in 2004, the Lake Stevens Boys and Girls Club is located in the heart of Chris Pratt’s hometown of Lake Stevens, WA. While the club offers a fun and engaging space for younger children, it’s lacking a designated place for teenagers to go after school. Donations to this campaign will help the Lake Stevens Boys and Girls Club build a welcoming space where these teens can come to hang out, play games, watch movies, listen to music and enjoy being teens! They’ll also be surrounded by positive role models who are always willing to help with homework, resumes or job interview tips.

Recently, a number of kids from the Lake Stevens Boys & Girls Club were inspired by Chris’ gesture and decided they all wanted to build their very own spaceship just like Star-Lord. As the children boarded their cardboard craft, complete with buttons and a visual monitor, they were all settled in ready to blast off. But just prior to launch, their transmission was intercepted and they received a special message from someone piloting a different ship… Star-Lord himself, Chris Pratt.

As you can see in the video below, their reaction was priceless. Get ready for the feels!

All contributions of $10 or more to Pratt’s Omaze campaign benefit the Lake Stevens Boys & Girls Club, a nonprofit dedicated to inspiring and enabling all young people to realize their full potential as productive, responsible, and caring citizens. Each donation will also  be entered for a chance to win lunch with the actor, including airfare to Atlanta, a four-star hotel accommodations, and a tour of the set of “Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2.”

<Editor’s note: Since this article was written, the deadline has passed to enter for the meet-and-greet with Chris. Donations are still being accepted for the Lake Stevens Boys & Girls Club>
