Check Out “The Purge: Election Year” Trailer!

The upcoming 4th of July weekend is certain to go out with a bang!  The third installment in The Purge series, The Purge: Election Year, is mere months away and now the first official trailer has been released.

The Purge‘s premise throughout the films has been the same: In an America ravaged by crime and overcrowded prisons, the government sanctions an annual 12-hour period during which all criminal activity — including murder — is legal.

The Purge, which debuted in 2013, grossed $89,328,627 during its run against a mere $3 million budget.  Its sequel, 2014’s The Purge: Anarchy, took in $102 million off a $9 million budget.  At a slightly higher #12 million budget for its third offering, The Purge: Election Year should easily surpasses their operating expenses and complete the trilogy nicely.

The Purge: Election Year synopsis:

Two years after choosing not to kill the man who killed his son, former police sergeant Leo Barnes (Grillo) has become head of security for Senator Charlene Roan (Mitchell), the front runner in the next Presidential election due to her vow to eliminate the Purge. On the night of what should be the final Purge, a betrayal from within the government forces Barnes and Roan out onto the street where they must fight to survive the night.

The Purge: Election Year stars Frank Grillo (Crossbones from Captain America: Winter Soldier), Elizabeth Mitchell (Juliet Burke from Lost), Mykelti Williamson, Betty Gabriel, Edwin Hodge, Kyle Secor, Joseph Julian Soria and Liza Colón-Zayas. The film is set to be released on July 1, 2016.
