Canadian Bakery Casts A Magical Holiday Spell With Giant Hogwarts Gingerbread House

Hogwarts gingerbread feature

Over the years, many a young child has assembled a gingerbread house with their family as part of the holiday season. As you get older, your designs can get more involved and complicated. And if you’re really ambitious, like The Duchess Bake Shop in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, you decide that you want to tackle Hogwarts Castle from Harry Potter for your annual holiday display.

These photos of the delicious-looking Hogwarts were shared via the bakery’s Instagram page.

Every year the bakery recreates a different castle out of gingerbread for the holiday season, and they stated that this year’s selection was their most ambitious one yet. That’s certainly believable as you watch the timelapse video they shared on their Facebook page and see that the magic school entirely takes up up three large tables.

The creation is completely edible, made out of gingerbread, sugar, and various candies.

If you visit the bakery to see this masterful creation in-person, you can even get your own Harry Potter-inspired drink. They are offering their version of every witch and wizard’s favorite drink – butterbeer! The drink is made with a silky, steamed milk that has notes of vanilla, butterscotch, and lemon, and you can even add a shot of espresso if that strikes your fancy. It is topped of with a drizzle of butterscotch in the shape of Harry’s famous lightning-bolt scar.

In the true spirit of the holidays, Duchess Bake Shop is offering the chance to help “destroy,” aka eat, the massive castle after the holidays. Proving that the employees at Duchess are solidly behind the cause of championing the rights of house-elves, anyone wishing to participate simply needs to bring a pair of socks to donate. These will be given to the Bissell Centre, which “provides low-income families with free temporary childcare for children 0 to 6 years.”

What do you think of this massive gingerbread Hogwarts? What is the most impressive gingerbread display you’ve ever seen? Do you think this is worth a road-trip to see in person? Are you a card-carrying member of S.P.E.W.? Let us know!
