Who could have known that a random children’s movie, released on Netflix less than a year ago in the summer of June 2025 about a trio of young K-pop stars fighting ancient demons with the extraordinary power of singing would become an unstoppable, global juggernaut. Because that’s EXACTLY what happened with a little movie you may have heard of, K-Pop Demon Hunters.
Prior to the release of K-Pop Demon Hunters, Korean culture had made strides in the global zeitgeist like vocalist Psy’s 2012 hit, Gangnam Style, and Bong Joon Ho’s 2019 dramatic thriller, Parasite.
However, KPDH had distinct disadvantages in the form of minimally experienced directors, a severe lack of global advertisement, and the heartbreaking past of primary singer and song writer, EJAE, a rejected K-pop idol trainee.
Thankfully, with the power of positive word of mouth, EJAE is finally shining like who she was born to be in the form of phenomenal songs such as Your Idol, What It Sounds Like, and her multi-award-winning hit, Golden.
