NEW ENTRY IN THE MONSTER HUNTER MEMOIRS SERIES: Chloe Mendoza and her team from Monster Hunter International must seek out and destroy an ancient evil threatening Los Angeles at the height of Disco Fever.
Los Angeles: the 1970s.
Disco is king and the nightclubs are full of young, beautiful people with Saturday night fever. From the Sunset Strip to Hollywood Boulevard, a new era is dawning. But below the glitz and glamour, a darkness lurks.
Chloe Mendoza knows darkness. She is a nagualii, a half-demon created by the gods of Central and South America, a daughter of the Court of Feathers, a group of demigods who ruled Mesoamerica before the Spanish arrived.
Now, she is a member of Monster Hunter International’s latest team, based in the L.A. Basin. Business is good in the City of Angels, but soon Chloe gets a message from the Court of Feathers, warning her of a Dark Master who is building up its power in the region. Whatever it is, it brings death and carnage with it.
Time to boogie.
Monster Hunter Memoirs: Fever by Larry Correia and Jason Cordova is the fourth book in the Monster Hunter Memoirs series and a new addition to the Monster Hunter world created by Mr. Correia. It was released in hardcover format on October 3rd.
The Monster Hunter Memoirs book series is written by multiple authors. Other books in the series are Grunge, Sinners, and Saints. These are a look back at some of the greatest hunts and hunters of the MHI. It’s a great series that fills in some holes for the main series.
This book gives us some new characters and does a lot of world-building. It also gives us some interesting backstories on characters, organizations, and artifacts we had previously seen. It’s a great enhancement to the Monster Hunter world.
Larry and Jason make a seamless writing pair. Their styles complement each other and you can’t really tell where they swapped off. Reading the book, you can’t tell if they swapped between characters, chapters or at random points.
This did take me a few months to read, but that was more because of my schedule than the book. Whenever I found the chance to pick it up, it was good and sucked me back into its pages.
Overall, I rate this as a 4.5 star (our of 5). It’s a good book that pulls you in and makes you think a little bit. I love the history and world building and the fact that you get to see how involved and complex the Monster Hunter world actually is.
This is a great book to sit back with and enjoy with a good cup of tea, a hot fire, and a dog at your feet.
