‘Blade Runner 2049’: Sequel’s Synopsis Revealed + a Virtual Reality Release!

We are only a mere 364 days from the anticipated sequel to the sci-fi cult classic Blade Runner!

Alcon Entertainment and Warner Bros. have announced the title for the October 6th, 2017 release: Blade Runner 2049. Directing the film is Denis Villeneuve (Sicario, Arrival) who is working alongside the producer/director for the original 1982 film Ridley Scott. Screenwriters Hampton Fancher and Michael Green are also with the project.

The movie has a great number of stars signed on to join lead actor Harrison Ford as he reprises his role as Rick Deckard. Joing Ford will be Ryan Gosling, Jared Leto, Robin Wright, Dave Bautista, Mackenzie Davis, Lennie James, and Ana de Armas.

Things are rather hush on the set as filming continues but there have been a few teasers. First, the film’s official Twitter account shared a moment with a few recognizable faces…

 

Another announcement is the official synopsis of Blade Runner 2049 from Warner Bros.:

The sequel is set several decades after the 1982 original, and stars Ryan Gosling together with Harrison Ford, reprising his iconic role as Rick Deckard. The film is written by Hampton Fancher and Michael Green, and succeeds the initial story by Fancher and David Peoples based on Philip K. Dick’s novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep. Story details are not being revealed.

And finally, Oculus has also confirmed that the sci-fi flick will be released in virtual reality on the Oculus Rift and other Oculus platforms, in addition to theaters. Again, since it is still a year away, details are haven’t fully been revealed. However, Oculus has promised they intend to reveal more details in the near future.

Blade Runner 2049 arrives in theaters on October 6, 2017.
