An In-Depth Look at the Quicksilver & Scarlet Witch

As many of us hoped, Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch and Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s Quicksilver are much more than just minor characters in the new Avengers: Age of Ultron. In a Marvel UK Youtube Interview Joss Whedon stated that they were “massively important new characters.”

In the video Colbi Smulders (Agent Maria Hill) tells us that Wanda and Pietro Maximoff are twins, which is a relief to many of us who feared they would change too much of their origins. As is, we aren’t sure if they are Magnetos offspring like they are in the comics.

We did see a version of Quicksilver(Evan Peters) in X-Men:Days of Future Past which scared many of us into thinking that they had separated the twins, but they never named the little sister in Future Past and it was a different studio that produced the movie. In fact Marvel seems to be ignoring the Fox movies as they have not reached a deal with them, like they have with Sony and Spider-Man. During the video they also discussed the abilities of the characters. Quicksilver was described as “as fast or almost as fast as a bullet,” by Joss Whedon. Taylor Johnson added in the fact that Pietro is so volatile because everything about him is fast, including his mind, and he is annoyed and aggravated with how slow the rest of the world seems.

Scarlet Witch has been changed significantly. In the comic she does probability manipulation, reality warping and later learns chaos magic, however in the movies they have changed her abilities. According to Whedon, Wanda is now a telekinetic who “can move things and she can get inside your head so that all your worst fears and doubts come to the fore.”

It’s possible they changed her because it wasn’t theatrical enough, but unfortunately this probably means that Wanda will be totally rewritten when the Secret Wars are over and they give us a reboot.

Olsen gave us some interesting information that lets us know a little more about the movie coming out in May. She described Scarlet Witch as grounded, thoughtful and connected with the Universe. According to Olsen Wanda is so powerful that she really does a job on the Avengers forcing them to retreat.

I can’t wait for the Avengers: Age of Ultron to come out.
