Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Star Chloe Bennet Asks What Many Fans Are Asking… Why Isn’t AoS Connected To MCU?

Chloe Bennet, who stars as Daisy “Skye” Johnson on Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., appeared at Wizard World Des Moines last weekend promoting her hit ABC television show. While at the convention, Chloe spoke at a Q&A session and answered questions from the fans in attendance. One question was posed asking why Steve Rogers/Captain America or Tony Stark/Iron Man haven’t appeared on the series to help their fellow comrades fight off Hive. After all the ancient Inhuman, and Inhumans in general, are supposed to be part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. So what gives?

Chloe was not shy and didn’t hold back her feelings on the matter. The 24-year old actress practically answered the question by posing a question of her own directly at Marvel.

I don’t know,” Bennet answered, “People who make movies for Marvel, why don’t you acknowledge what happens on our show? Why don’t you guys go ask them that? Because they don’t seem to care!

AoSThe actress does speak truth. Just what role does the MCU, its characters and storylines, intertwine with properties on television? With having the cast of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. in their shared universe, it would certainly make for a wonderful dichotomy where guest appearances and cameos can add to viewership and interest Not only the AoS crew, but now with Marvel’s partnership with Netflix and the highly touted characters they developed in Daredevil, Jessica Jones, The Punisher, and supporting cast (not to mention Luke Cage or The Iron Fist), how could you not integrate them into the movies, and vice versa? With the Netflix stars uniting in The Defenders series, who wouldn’t want to see The Avengers/Defenders team-up or even altercation? With these Netflix characters sharing so many stories in the comics with superheroes already featured on the big screen, it seems like common sense at some point we would have to see a crossover.

“The Marvel Cinematic Universe loves to pretend that everything is connected, but then they don’t acknowledge our show at all. So, I would love to [appear in a Marvel movie], but they don’t seem too keen on that idea,” Bennet added.

Last night the season finale aired on ABC. The ratings aren’t yet out for that episode, but the one just prior was one of the show’s lowest rated, with only 2.93 million viewers. Still, the positive reception for the series garnered the S.H.I.E.L.D. agents a fourth season. The thing to watch for in the 2016-2017 season is how the change to their time slot will affect viewership. Moved from 9 p.m. ET to 10 p.m. ET, ABC president Channing Dungey says the scheduling change will allow the show to “go a little bit edgier, go a little darker, and take some risks.” They may just have to do that to keep fans watching, even though it means staying up later. Hopefully they have DVR.
