ABC Cancels “Agent Carter” After Two Seasons and “Castle” After Eight

Agent CarterAlas, Peggy Carter is bidding us farewell. ABC announced today that they will not be renewing Agent Carter for a third season. The spinoff of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., starring Hayley Atwell, was just not pulling in the numbers the network hoped, despite the show’s fan following.

So what is to become of our favorite S.S.R. agent? In the Marvel Universe, anything can happen. Cameo appearances, return to film, and even Netflix is an option. So don’t fret, there is hope. It may take some time, but this may not be the last we see of Agent Peggy Carter. And actress Hayley Atwell has been added to ABC’s fall lineup in a new series entitled Conviction.

Castle picIn addition to axing the Marvel series after its sophomore season, the network also gave Castle the boot. The Nathan Fillion-led crime procedural lasted eight seasons, but was filled with tension between stars Fillion and Stana Katic (Detective Kate Beckett). Recently, Jatic announced she would not be returning next season. A promo for the season 8 finale, which airs this coming Monday, teases a possible death on the show with a villain saying that Castle and Beckett’s love story “ends in tragedy.”

What’s next for Fillion? Fans could certainly hope for a Firefly reunion (I think Joss Whedon is available now that he’s done with the Avengers and Marvel). Fillion has certainly proven himself to be a marketable talent. It likely won’t be long before he pops up again.

Castle‘s final episode airs on ABC Monday, May 16, at 10 p.m. ET.
