Abbey Lee (Mad Max: Fury Road) Cast As Female Lead In “The Dark Tower”

It looks like Mad Max: Fury Road’s Abbey Lee is set to star as Tirana in the upcoming film adaptation of Stephen King’s The Dark Tower. Lee will play opposite Idris Elba, who has signed on as the lead role of gunslinger Roland Deschain. Also involved with the project is Matthew McConaughey, who will star as the villain William Padick, also known by the name The Man in Black.

The Dark TowerSony and Media Rights Capital have come together to develop the adaptation of Stephen King’s The Dark Tower series on film and on television. Director Nikolaj Arcel (A Royal Affair, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo) has been tapped for the film project.

Sony will distribute what is planned to be the first in a series of Dark Tower movies (a complementary TV series is also being developed by MRC).  The first installment The Dark Tower focuses on the first book in the series, The Gunslinger, establishing the relationship between Roland and young protege Jake Chambers.

The film’s synopsis is as follows:

Gunslinger Roland Deschain roams an Old West-like landscape in search of the dark tower, in the hopes that reaching it will preserve his dying world
