Athens lost the war to Crete. Now, they pay tribute to King Minos by sacrificing their best citizens to his unearthly labyrinth. Conspirators believe Theseus can be the hero they need, who can end the mad king’s bloody reign…but no one on this world has ever encountered anything like the savage minotaur.

CHRIS PASETTO, CHRISTIAN CANTAMESSA (Red Dead Redemption) and LUKAS KETNER (WITCH DOCTOR) reinvent the most fearsome beast in all of mythology with this horrific tale of heroism.

PopCultHQ’s Comic Book Review:
KILL THE MINOTAUR TPB

Writing:

Chris and Christian have come up with something truly amazing here. The classic Greek myth, its tale and characters known throughout time. Add in a spice of adventure, a hint of something dark and bizarre, and its end result is the trade collecting the six issue series. Something for comics lovers and mythology buffs to enjoy, that will have readers eyes glued to each page to see what happens next.

Art:

Lukas’ art is mesmerizing. It quite literally draws the eye across the page. There is a boldness to the lines and the designs on all the characters, from Theseus to Ariadne to Minos to the Minotaur. Not to mention the cities of Athens, the island of Crete, and the terrible Labyrinth itself. It is the Labyrinth where he truly went to town, with elaborate lines and crazy visuals to fully encapsulate this place of horrors. All these elements brought to life through the exquisite art of Lukas Ketner.

Jean-Francois’ work as colorist defies description. Every color choice for this TPB beautifully goes together with Lukas’ art. The colors work to help bring the art to life, springing it right off the comic’s page and into the mind of the reader. For a tale of adventure and violence, there is a heavy use of reds, and the dark, bleak colors used on the Labyrinth give it such a chilling effect.

Clem steps up to bat again as a letterer. For this TPB, he pours a lot of energy into its lettering. For the retelling of the classic Greek myth, that requires getting creative with the letters which help the characters be more than just pictures on a page. Clem imbues them with life, with vitality and energy. Where he gets creative is also with the lettering of the titular monster, the Minotaur itself.

PopCultHQ’s overall assessment:

Welcome to the ancient Greek world. A time of heroes, gods, monsters, and legends. Dive into this thrilling and hair-raising TPB taking the tale of Theseus and the Minotaur, spun together with the magic of an amazing creative team. It will have everyone on the edge to see what happens next and as soon as they finish the TPB, they will want to read it all over again.
