FAN EXPO Chicago 2023 returned to the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center on August 10th and runs though August 13th for their 2023 show.
As I mentioned in my previous article about Saturday, the theme of the day was crowds. With so many people packed into just the one convention hall, it was bound to happen. At one point early in the day, I walked into main hall with some friends and was just stunned at the utter crush of people. That theme extended to the celebrities – the lines for some of the most popular guests, such as comic creator Frank Miller and Back to the Future stars Michael J. Fox, Christopher Lloyd, and Lea Thompson, were so long that they had to be segmented so they didn’t crowd the flow of traffic too much. The lines for the Back to the Future stars even had lines that went into the hallway by the panel rooms!
A few artists I spoke with admitted some frustration over the organization of Artist Alley. While the vendor section of the floor was easily numbered according to the aisle it was in, the numbering for Artist Alley was much less clear. The booths had a combination of letters and numbers that did not necessarily coordinate with the booths around them, making it difficult to tell anyone where they were located.

Here are the rest of the cosplays I managed to capture on Saturday. Whether they were competing in the FAN EXPO Chicago Cosplay Craftsmanship Cup or simply giving homage to their favorite character, everyone enjoyed showing off their fandoms. I have to give extra points to the musical duet that livened up the Star Trek Meetup with some live music!
