[Video Interview] “Pants Optional” – Episode XIV: Tom Peyer of AHOY Comics

“Pants Optional” is PopCultHQ’s Zoom video interview feature where we connect with individuals within the comic book community. It’s a way to see/hear what creators have been doing during a quarantine, projects which may be in motion during this downtime, and noteworthy events and happenings taking place in lieu of conventions, appearances, and the weekly NCBD grind.

For Episode XIV, I spoke with Tom Peyer. The veteran writer has had his hands in a wide assortment of titles from the Big Two publishers, a number of IPs, and worked with countless creators over his career. The former DC Comics editor is currently the Editor-in-Chief at AHOY Comics, as well as lending his knack for storytelling among a number of titles at the burgeoning indie publisher.

So sit back and enjoy as we speak about the Edgar Allan Poe books, the new SNIFTER OF BLOOD title, Tom’s PENULTIMAN series, and AHOY Comics.

Special thanks to Tom Peyer for taking the time to speak with us. Be sure to follow Tom & AHOY Comics online (links below), and definitely check out the second volume of EDGAR ALLAN POE’S SNIFTER OF TERROR (available in bookstores and comic book shops), PENULTIMAN #0 for FREE, PENULTIMAN #1 (available now), and EDGAR ALLAN POE’S SNIFTER OF BLOOD #1 when it debuts on October 21st!!

Writer/Editor – Tom Peyer

He is known for his 1999 revisioning of Golden Age super-hero Hourman, as well as his work on the Legion of Super-Heroes in the 1990s. An editor at DC Comics/Vertigo from 1987 to 1993, he served as assistant editor on Neil Gaiman’s groundbreaking Sandman. Peyer has also worked for Marvel Comics, Wildstorm, and Bongo Comics. With John Layman, he wrote the 2007–2009 Tek Jansen comic book, based on the Stephen Colbert character.

Publisher – AHOY Comics

AHOY Comics debuted in the fall of 2018 with the bold promise for readers to expect more from its line of comic book magazines, featuring comic book stories, poetry, prose fiction, and cartoons. The independent, Syracuse-based company is the brainchild of Publisher Hart Seely, an award-winning reporter whose humor and satire has appeared in The New York Times and on National Public Radio. AHOY’s Editor-in-Chief Tom Peyer is committed to publishing comics with a (dark) sense of humor with titles like the superhero parody THE WRONG EARTH, the religious satire HIGH HEAVEN, the sci fi spoof CAPTAIN GINGER, the time travel tales PLANET OF THE NERDS and BRONZE AGE BOOGIE, HASHTAG: DANGER and the anthology series EDGAR ALLAN POE’S SNIFTER OF TERROR. This summer, the company will publish the highly anticipated SECOND COMING, the satirical comic book series by Mark Russell and Richard Pace in which Jesus Christ resumes His Holy Mission.
