1866 – World’s first roller rink opens (Newport, Rhode Island)
1903 – Patent on instant coffee issued
1942 – Actress Hedy Lamarr and composer George Antheil receive a patent for a Frequency-hopping spread spectrum communication system that later became the basis for modern technologies in wireless telephones and Wi-Fi.
1989 – “Nightmare on Elm Street 5: Dream Child” premieres
1992 – The Mall of America with 2.5 million sq ft of retail space over four floors, more than 500 shops, an indoor amusement park, and roller coasters opened in Bloomington, Minn.
