1843 – An alligator falls from sky during a thunderstorm in Charleston, South Carolina
1901 – Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid rob train of $40,000 at Wagner, Montana
1937 – Amelia Earhart and Fred Noonan disappear flying over the Pacific Ocean en route to Howland Island. Noonan is declared dead the following year, and Earhart is declared in 1939
1955 – “Lawrence Welk Show” premieres on ABC
1959 – “Plan 9 From Outer Space,” one of the worse films ever, premieres
1962 – The first Walmart store, then known as Wal-Mart, opens for business in Rogers, Arkansas.
1982 – Larry Walters (“Lawnchair Larry”) took flight in his homeade airship that consisted of a lawnchair with 45 helium-filled weather balloons attached to it. He stayed in flight for about an hour.
1998 – “Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets” the second book in the series is published by Bloomsbury in the UK
